The chemical formula for nickel (iii) oxide is Ni2O3, so for every 3 moles of oxygen there are 2 moles of nickel

The chemical equation for the reaction of decomposition of 2 moles of Nickel(III) oxide forming nickel and oxygen gas is written as:

[tex]Ni_2O_3\rightarrow Ni+O_2[/tex]

In order to balance the equation we will multiply [tex]Ni_2O_3[/tex] with 2 on reactant side and [tex]Ni[/tex] with 4 and [tex]O_2[/tex] with 3 on the product side. Thus, the balanced chemical equation is:

[tex]2Ni_2O_3\rightarrow 4Ni+3O_2[/tex]

From the balanced equation, it is clear that 2 moles of [tex]Ni_2O_3[/tex] decomposes to give 4 moles of [tex]Ni[/tex] and 3 moles of [tex]O_2[/tex].

Hence, it is clear from the balanced equation that 4 moles of Nickel are there for every 3 moles of oxygen gas.
