In President Eisenhower's farewell address, he cautioned the nation against the power of the military-industrial complex, which he considered a threat to democracy

President Dwight Eisenhower was an army general and served as the 34th President of the United States. During his time as General, he served as supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe. As President, he served two periods, from 1953 to 1961.

During his farewell speech, President Eisenhower warned against "the military-industrial complex". He stated that while it was of increasing importance to be ready against potential that threats, the country should not fall to the hands of military businesses, whose sole objective is to be more profitable by finding means to support armed conflicts around the world.
