Judging the similarity of two objects based on the extent to which they resemble each other is using the "Representative heuristic".

The representativeness heuristic was first depicted by analysts Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman amid the 1970s. Like different heuristics, making judgments in view of representativeness is proposed to fill in as a kind of mental easy route, enabling us to settle on choices rapidly.
