One thing I found interesting was Tammi mentioning that they don't have patients come in to sign a Release of Information, they actually fill out the form and just verify with the patient that the information is correct. I found this surprising because how do they know for sure that it is not someone else that has all the information?
a. Another thing Tammi mentioned was when after they code the claims, the claims will go through "scrubbers" and then edit's are then reviewed, because 3M does not always catch the edits.
b. I find this surprising because I thought claims were sent in after being coded and then if they were denied, then the claims were edited from claims staff.
c. One thing I find a little discouraging was when Tammi mentioned she was transitioned from a MercyOne employee to a Trinity employee.
d. It makes me wonder if there were different policies/procedures they did in the HIM department, or if it all remained the same.
