Note: In 1966, Senator Robert F. Kennedy met Chavez because he had a position on the Senate
Subcommittee on Migratory Labor. Inspired by Chavez, Kennedy became a strong supporter of
protecting the rights of farm workers. In February 1968, during a long strike against grape growers,
Cesar Chavez went on a 25-day hunger strike. Kennedy, soon to announce his run for president,
came to support Chavez on March 11, the last day of the fast.
