Seventeen Los Angeles Woolworth and Kress stores were picketed yesterday by local sympathizers with the lunch counter sitdown demonstrations by southern Negro students. . . . The pickets handed out circulars reading in part: Kress and Woolworth are two of the large chain stores which practice discrimination in the South. Our refusal to patronize these stores in areas outside the South will serve to impress upon owners of the stores the fact that this practice must end.
