HUNGER GAMES
Suzanne Collins
Thresh refrains from killing Katniss because THE
she had cared for and protected Rue, the
other tribute from his district: "Just this
one time, I let you go," he says, "for the little
girl" (Collins 284). Additionally, Katniss
wins favor with the audience by kissing
Peeta and nursing him back to health
(Collins 256). In both instances, Katniss's
compassion improves her chances of victory
in the Games.
