Risk for fat embolism is greater in the first 36 hours after a fracture. More common with multiple fractures, fracture of the long bone, and/or the pelvis. Fat embolism first symptom is ____________ due to hypoxemia (check PO2). Assess for Respiratory distress, restlessness, irritability, fever, and petechiae. If embolus is suspected, notify physical stat, draw ABG, administer O2 and be ready to assist with E.T intubation.
