Focus: The structural development of shelters around the world is influenced by environment
and the human need to survive.
Our class will be working on a shelter's project. Students
will choose a region from US/around the world. Students will
need to conduct research and identify why shelters are built a
certain way based on the environment, natural resources, and
climate of that region.
Students will construct a shelter in the appropriate
environment. Additionally, they will be responsible for a
written and oral report that explains the unique characteristics
of that shelter as it relates to its environment. The shelter will
then be tested against the winds created by a fan to see if it will
withstand its blows.
What will we look for?
Evidence that shows the students' understanding of how the
environment affects the type of shelter that people around the
world have.
