Discussion Board: Solving Systems of Equations using Matrices A
This is a graded discussion board. All students must post following the directions below before the due date.
This discussion board requires you to type math. You may need to use the equation editor to do this: How to Use the Math Equation Editor. If you
do not want to use equation editor, you may write the problem on notebook paper and upload your discussion board post as a picture or pdf file.
Look on page 285 of your textbook, and select one problem from #35-48 and do ALL of the following:
Search entries or author
due Jan 28
1. State the problem number and copy the problem into your post. (20 Points)
2. Write the system of equations as an augmented matrix. (20 points)
3. List ALL row operations you would use to solve this system. You should state your row operations using correct notation as seen in your
textbook (for example R3+ R1 --> R1), this is just an example to show that your row operation should look like this). (See example 3 on page
279) (20 points)
4. Write your final matrix in row echelon form (see example 2 on page 278) OR in reduced row echelon form (see example 3 on page 279) (20
points)
5. State the solution to your system as an ordered triple (x, y, z). (20 points)
Extra points (max of 10 points): Reply to a classmate's post with constructive suggestions for correcting their post.
"Discussion board posts may be turned in up to 24 hours late with a 30 point penalty.
