Preview: By 1945, WWII had ended. The Allied Powers of Britain, France, U.S., and Soviet Union were victorious as Germany and Japan had surrendered. Europe was devastated economically, but U.S. and Soviet Union came out as the main world leaders, or “Superpowers,” after the war. Both countries wanted to gain the most influence after the war. During this credit you will gain insights into how the U.S.-Soviet Union relationship went “cold” as a result of their differing ideologies (beliefs), strong military alliances, distrust, and spying.
