Archaeologist Yuan Zhongyi made what seemed an impulsave decision in 1974. Assuming
that a farmer's far-fetched claims were valed, Yuan started a dig in a remote Chinese field.
Soon he had leteral proof that a two-thousand-year-old legend was true. He found a buried
army of life-sized clay soldiers guarding the tomb of China's first emperor. Each soldier was
unique, even down to the mustaiche. Yuan's work continues to anhance our knowledge of the
ancient world.
