15. Archimedes' principle states that the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid, whether partially or fully submerged, is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces and acts in the upward direction at the center of mass of the displaced fluid. This has a lot of applications in our daily life.
a) Using Archimedes’ principle, find out the mass of the water displaced by a sealed packet of mass 500 g and volume 350 cm3 when it is immersed in water. (The density of water = 1 g/cm3)
b) Will the packet float or sink in water?
c) Why a block of plastic when released under water comes up to the surface of
water?
