Coverage will go into effect If eligible 3 months BEFORE an individual reaches age 65, and it continues for 7 months. If those about to receive Social Security are notified several months before their birthday that they will be automatically enrolled in both premium-free Part A, and Part B, for which they will need to pay a premium if they choose to enroll. When does this coverage become effective?
1) This coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month the individual turns age 65.
2) For persons whose birthday is the first day of the month, the coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month prior to their birthday.
3) Approximately 3 months before their 65th birthday, eligible individuals receive the Medicare card indicating the coverage effective date.
