Lithium prolongs the action of BOTH succinylcholine and non-depolarizing NMBAs.

Lithium has been shown to decrease ACh release from alpha motor neurons at the NMJ. This causes lithium to prolong the duration of action of BOTH depolarizing and non-depolarizing NMBAs.

Additionally, lithium activates K+ channels and thus inhibits pre-synaptic neuromuscular transmission.

a) Shortens the duration of NMBAs
b) Prolongs the duration of NMBAs
c) Has no effect on NMBAs
d) Increases the potency of NMBAs
