Scenario

Amendment 1 of the United States Bill of Rights states that, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion", effectively preventing any administration at any level of the US political system from passing laws based on religious beliefs. (constitution_pdf2 (constitutioncenter.org)) Despite this, interpretations of Christian scripture and morality have been used as the basis for many laws passed at both the state and national levels, and have been upheld in courts under the same justification.
