Current trends in sport assignment
Scenario The college sports department and leadership are keen to encourage higher participation levels amongst the college population in the extra-curricular opportunities students have access to at lunchtime.
To help the sports department and college leadership team to offer an attractive range of activities, they have requested that you carry out a survey amongst your peers to find out whether they currently take part, there reasons for (not) taking part, and what may be barriers to their engagement in the activities more often.
Task 1
Before reporting back to the sports department and the college leadership team you will need to design and carry out a survey that allows you to collect data about student’s current participation rates, as well as their reasons for either participating or not participating in the extra-curricular activities offered at college. You should also ask students what other activities that could be offered at college would make them more likely to participate regularly.
Finally, make sure you provide an opportunity for each person who responds to your survey to explain any factors that may limit their participation in regular physical activity. Factors which may impact on participation could include; disability, provision, cost, ethnicity, location, age, gender. (2B.P3, 2B.P4, 2B.M3)
Task 2
Using the most recent Sport England – Active Lives Survey: (https://sportengland-production-files.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/s3fs-public/2023-04/Active%20Lives%20Adult%20Survey%20November%202021-22%20Report.pdf?VersionId=ln4PN2X02DZ1LF18btgaj5KFHx0Mio9o ) ,to explore how participation rates in a number of activities have changed over recent years (make sure you include some that have seen decreasing levels of participations, as well as those that have seen increases).
Consider what may be responsible for the changes in participation rates. You may wish to think about some/all of the following:
• New/emerging activities
• Influence of fashion
• Changing expectations of participants/spectators
• Technological developments
Please note you must cover at least six different trends
(2B.P5,2B.M4, 2B.D3)
