How does being captured by the goblins compare to being captured by the trolls?
A. The trolls were dangerous, but so bumbling and unaware that they were actually amusing; Gandalf was able to step in and resolve the danger quickly. On the other hand, nothing about the goblins is amusing; they are "cruel, wicked, and bad-hearted." It was trickier to get away from the goblins than it was the trolls.
B. The conflicts with the trolls and the goblins are basically the same. They are both easily defeated.
C. The trolls were friends of the elves, so they decided to leave Bilbo and his friends alone. The goblins hate the elves, so they attacked more ferociously.
