Why is it ironic that Thomas Jefferson condemned King George III for the practice of slavery in the colonies in his original draft of the Declaration of Independence?
The British government had already abolished slavery years ago.
King George III was blocked by Parliament when he attempted to abolish slavery.
Slavery was not as widespread in North America as it was in England.
Jefferson himself owned enslaved people and was writing on behalf of many slave owners.
