Give Providing for the Common Defense a grade, then think of appropriate questions (as I did in my example) to justify that grade. The answers to your
questions are what you'll use to argue how well or not well the government is providing them for us. The answers to the questions you thought of are the
basis of your paragraph. You are focusing on how well your government protects us from outside enemies. Questions to consider are: military-wise,
has the government always protected us? Has it always repelled enemies? Has it used its strength to coerce other countries into submitting to our will?
Has it always been adequately funded? Do we have top-notch equipment? Does it give you pride? Do we take care of soldiers, marines, airmen, sailors,
etc. while they're in service? Have we lost any wars or conflicts? (Yes.) Did we contribute successfully on other wars? Overall, has it been effective as the
Founding Fathers promised?
