discuss the interplay of individuals/individuality and collectives/collectivity in the social theory of 2-3 of our theorists (at least one must come from the first half of the course and at least one from the second half; see below). are we all individuals, sovereign in character and action? if not, how much of who we are and what we do (in our friendships and families, in voluntary and coerced associations with other humans, as part of different communities and/or state-level societies) is socially structured and determined? how might this influence the way you do anthropological research and explanation?
