In class we talked about the story of Cortez and his experiences with Montezuma in Tenochtitlan that ultimately led to the downfall of the Aztec people.

Ambassadors from the Aztec empire were sent to meet Cortez's Group. Cortez told them, "Send me some gold, because my companions and I suffer from a disease of the heart that can only be cured by Gold".
Cortez took Montezuma hostage
Cortez ambushed the Aztec's in the middle of the night to take over their city.
Cortez left Tenochtitlan for a little while and when he returned the Aztec's had taken back over their city. Cortez told Montezuma to call for peace, but when he did he was killed by his people.
Cortez and his people ran away from the city, pillaging all the gold they could. The bridge was destroyed on their way out, and the people who wouldn't let go of their gold let it weigh themselves down and they drowned. Cortez then cried by a tree.
When Cortez brought back an army 10 months later, there was hardly any people because they had died of diseases brought by the Conquistadors.
