2.Pay particular attention to the details relevant to the female protagonists based on the setting of the film. What conflicts seem connected to the time and place in which the film is set specifically because of their gender?
3.As you view the films, consider ways in which characters are influenced by the society surrounding them. Watch for ways that the protagonists rebel, challenge, or confront the expectations of society. Also consider ways in which the characters accept, support, or approve of the social expectations for women in the film. between the two films, are the characters and contexts equally complex?
4.Examine the ways in which the characters’ experiences are resolved. Looking at the characters tracked specifically in each film, watch closely to understand their character development, conflicts faced, and ultimately their final realizations as conveyed in the film.
5.In examining all of your active viewing notes, consider what the films suggest about gender roles and stereotypes of the female characters as well as their relationships with others. Consider specific scenes that raise, explore, or contradict the ideas of female stereotypes, gender roles, and relationships. To demonstrate your understanding of various themes raised by the films, develop a descriptive sentence explaining your understanding of the messages or lessons expressed by the films, especially those themes that address the prominent issues raised in this unit.
