Position A: Food enters the mouth. It is broken down by chewing
and grinding. Saliva is also secreted from under the tongue to help
break down the food with enzymes.

Position B: Once the food has been broken down, it moves down
the esophagus using gravity and smooth muscle tissue. It ends up
trapped inside the stomach by a sphincter muscle.
2. Is this a mechanical digestion? Chemical digestion? Both?
Position C: The stomach then breaks the food down into a liquid
form with gastric juices (acid) and churning and grinding motions.
