Excerpt One: Journals of Yesterday's Missionaries published March 23, 2021
We can learn much from the life of Abraham about wisdom and sacrifice. In Genesis 24, when searching for a wife for his son, Isaac, Abraham sent his servant to return to the land of his fathers, and from there, he was to choose the wife for Isaac. Abraham realized, as did his servant, that the woman that was chosen may not wish to leave the comforts of her home to join the life of tent-dwellers. Yet, the servant prayed and asked for God's leading and wisdom, and Rebekah was the woman who answered that prayer. When the servant asked for a drink of water, and she offered water, not only for him but also for his ten camels, the servant knew that this was the bride chosen by God to be the wife of Isaac. Rebekah had a servant's heart and was willing to leave the comforts and familiarity of her home and family to follow a path unknown to her.
Excerpt Two: " Called to Serve" (magazine article, May, 2022)
A missionary's life is one of service and of sacrifice. They leave family, friends, and those things that are familiar behind them. They also know that they are not merely following their heart. They are following a calling from God, a calling that will lead them to unknown lands, new people, and new cultures. By following God's calling, they will spread the gospel of Christ to people who may have never otherwise heard of God's goodness or of His plan of salvation for their lives.
