Unit: Technology for Communication
This activity will help you meet these educational goals:
Content Standards—You will understand the concept of on-boarding for new employees.
Inquiry—You will conduct online research, in which you will collect information and communicate your results in written form.
21st Century Skills—You will employ online tools for research and analysis.
Introduction
The small business you work for is very successful and continues to grow year after year. However, as everyone struggles to keep up the pace, your boss is getting concerned that inefficiencies are starting to creep in—especially the orientation of new employees when they are hired. At the moment, new hires start as soon as they are available and their orientation consists of being shown around by whomever is free at the time.
You have been asked to research a more formal and structured orientation process—to be called “on-boarding” —that will give new employees all the information they need to get started in their new roles with the company.
