we obtained an nmr spectrum of the mixture of cis and trans products from today’s ketone reduction reaction. as expected, the nmr result shows two different signals corresponding to the h attached to the oh carbon. we know that in one case the h in question is axial (and the oh equatorial) and in the other the h is equatorial (and the oh is axial).
