Step 1: Brainstorm
Write as many ideas down in this section as you can. Remember, you want to identify how
Santiago changed during his journey. Think back to the beginning of the novel: examine his
attitudes, his beliefs, his decision-making process, his behavior. Then reflect on his journey. Did
any of those change? How did they change?
