In recent years, low and high context communities have had the opportunity to gain more exposure and awareness of each other’s cultures. The Deaf community has had hundreds of opportunities to observe hearing cultural behaviors and language usage, but their hearing counterparts have only begun learning about the Deaf culture’s behaviors, norms, and languages in the last hundred years. We now know that the Deaf culture is a high context culture and the hearing culture is a low context culture. Discuss some of the behaviors of each culture that fits in the high and low context culture definition.
