6. Dr. Copus is in charge of the cognition department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
A new drug named Mem-Reen has become available that might be able to improve people's
memories. Dr. Copus puts half of her existing patients on the drug for two weeks while giving
the other half of her patients a placebo (a fake drug). She then gives both groups a memory
test and compares the scores. Afterwards, Dr. Copus wonders what confounding variables
may have affected the results.
Independent Variable: the type of drug
Experimental Group: the group that was gave mem-reen
Control Group:
Confounding Variable #1: placebo
Confounding Variable #2:
Confounding Variable #3: the memories test score Confounding Variable #4:
Dependent Variable:
the memories
the group that don't
receive placebo
random assigns to group
